9 High-Paying Part-Time Jobs

By Lorena Roberts on November 27, 2017

Millennials are the best at trying to optimize their time when it comes to working and making money. The ideal situation is working very little for a good sum of money. Millennials would rather work 20 hours per week if they’re making more money per hour. The key is finding these part-time jobs that are paying a bit more at a time. Here are some options if you’re looking for higher-paying part-time work:

1. Tutor

High schoolers need math tutors and college kids need help writing papers. If you’re good at either of these things, there’s plenty of money to be made. I’ve been tutoring high school math for two years now. If I had time to see more students, I could be making a couple hundred bucks per week in only a few hours. Private tutors can charge anywhere from $20-$45 per hour.

Online tutoring is also becoming a bigger and bigger thing. There are websites that will host you as a tutor so you can give lessons privately online. Just watch out — they take a cut of your pay.

2. Nanny

It’s standard to make $10/hour per child that you’re watching. So if you can watch three or four kids on the weekends, you can easily bring in a few hundred dollars.

The smartest way to work nannying into your schedule is to find a family who needs you at the same time every week. If you can put it in your planner like it’s a class you have to go to, it will just become a part of your routine.

It might be enough to make your car payment and a portion of your rent every month.

3. Travel Agent

Travel agents make around $17-18 per hour. Who knew?! While there don’t seem to be many of these jobs available currently, if you can snag one, it’ll be a quick way to make some cash.

Becoming a travel agent may require that you take some kind of online course/training. But it’ll be worth it when the paychecks start rolling in, right?

4. School Bus Driver

Definitely not the most glamorous job, I know. But school bus drivers are highly trusted. I mean you’re literally driving 25-40 kids home from school on a daily basis. Bus drivers make around $15 per hour — that’s twice the amount of minimum wage!

You’ll have to look into getting the correct license certificate and I’m sure there’s some training associated with this job — but for $15/hour, I’ll take it!

5. Personal Assistant/Secretary

Running errands and checking emails for business people who think they’re too busy and have more money than they know what to do with is another quick way to make some dough on the side. You probably won’t be able to pay all of your monthly bills by doing just this, but you could probably make a dent!

6. Bank Teller

You don’t have to be highly educated in order to be a bank teller. I’m pretty sure just a high school diploma is enough. Their annual salary is around $26K, so if you’re only doing it part-time, it might only make you about $15K. However, working at a bank gives you professional references and an experience you wouldn’t have elsewhere.

7. Fitness Instructor

This typically requires certification. But if you enjoy doing Zumba, or you really want to teach a weightlifting class, it’s a good way to make some cash on the side.

Most people think this would be a good hook up because you get “paid for working out,” but fitness instructors rarely get in a good workout of their own while they’re on the clock. However, this kind of job would probably come with a free gym membership, and to you that might be worth it!

8. Massage Therapist

Being a massage therapist definitely takes some commitment — there are certifications you need to have, and then finding a place to hire you might be a bit tricky. But massage therapists can make up to $40K per year, which is around $20 per hour. If you’re trying to get a side hustle going, this might be the one!

9. Freelance Writer

If you can create coherent sentences and you have a knack for thinking of good topics, you can probably get a job freelance writing. The best part is that you get to work from home and you can do it on your own time. Freelance writing is tough to put a number on, but depending on how much time you dedicate to it, you could probably bring in an additional $100 per month.
